Experience and meaning: feminist contribution to the debate

Abstract

The aim of the following work is to make a contribution to the field of experience from a tour of some of the contributions made from feminisms to this concept. Consequently, the article is arranged along two axes. In the first, the contributions of three feminist authors relevant to the debate about the notion of experience are reviewed. The proposed interpretation is based on pointing out the place given by these authors to the significant dimension in their definitions. In particular, two lines of analysis are identified: on the one hand, those who consider experience to be a significant event and, on the other hand, those who affirm the excess of experience with regard to meaning and the importance of addressing other levels of analysis. In the second axis, starting from a critical reading of these ways of conceiving experience, we will develop a possible way of approaching this concept in empirical research.
