Abstract

On May 2, 2022, Joseph Raz passed away. The contributions in this volume are a tribute to his person and his work by Latin American authors who focus on some of the points I highlighted. Santiago Legarre proposes a profile of Raz typical of his intimate and clear pen. Serrana Delgado Manteiga focuses on the notion of reason and exposes his doubts about Raz's meta-ethical realism, presents the limitations that he understands this entails in explaining normativity and proposes an alternative, superior vision. Julieta Rábanos describes in an elegant but compact way the theory of Razian authority and questions three central points of his approach to the problem of obedience to law. Juan Iosa, finally, puts agenda problems into perspective. He suggests that the philosophy of law as understood by Hart and Raz is already exhausted (a suggestion confirmed in part by the fact that the discipline seems to have recently turned toward metaphysics) and suggests new paths to explore (not toward metaphysics). but, rather, towards a contextualist historicism). The volume ends with the unpublished publication of the translation, carefully carried out by Daniela Dominicone, of a posthumous text by Raz that, perhaps, summarizes the core of the author's theoretical concern: the virtue of law.   Community Verified icon
