Abstract

In his book “The representative system: Political representations and the decline of parliamentary democracy”, Felipe Rey Salamanca, starts from a shared general premise: representative democracy is in crisis. This premise, however, is not new, and much less so for a book that deals with political representation. However, what makes Rey's work attractive is the introduction, description and evaluation of a type of phenomenon of diverse political representation, this is systemic representation. According to Rey, systemic representation is the most vital of representations since it is identified with a broad set of actors, one where the government is seen as a whole. In this work I will focus on three points, two objections and a question that pushes the author to take another step in his conception of representation.
