From a critical point of view this paper analyzes the Hélène Landemore's proposal of “open democracy”, presented in her recently published homonymous book. The thesis to be defended, maintains that, at the political philosophical level, such proposal does not offer a solid theoretical framework in terms of the foundations that conceptually support it. Taking into account the explicit mention that the author makes regarding the Habermasian conception of deliberative democracy, in the sense that she subscribes to its theoretical approach, this paper proceeds to analyze some of the presuppositions of the aforementioned proposal, and also of this theory of the German philosopher, in order to contribute to the philosophical-political justification of such conception of open democracy.
